The Lodge and Surroundings
The African Conservancy Company maintains three luxury tented camps in the following locations:
- Oltepesi Tented Camp- Central Serengeti
- Olerai Tented Camp- Kirawira Serengeti
- Oingat Tented Camp- Northern Serengeti/ Ndutu
Consisting of a maximum of 10 large luxury 1920’s Classic Hemingway Style tents per location, these camps replicate the throwback days of the first European explorers and their caravans of furniture, food and equipment.
A day at the Camps
Wake up to the sounds of the morning bird calls as your valet brings you yoru first hot beverage of the day. After a wholesome breakfast prepared fresh by the camps master chef- you depart for a full day of game viewing. Often, visitors stay back and simply enjoy the camp surrounding although they cannot venture too far on their own. Upon returning from the game drive- the camp valets have already prepared hot water for your shower before settling down for a sun downer and a 3-course wholesome dinner complete with chinaware, silverware and a full bar.
Serengeti’s famous Wildebeest and Zebra migration between the months of November and June are a spectacle worth watching especially from the camps. While animals stay away from the camp site- it is not unusual to hear the nocturnal sounds of hyenas and lions as they prowl for game in the distance. The Serengeti boasts of practically all the plains animals found in East Africa as well as a variety of bird species.

About the Tented Camps
These large tents are the ultimate way to experience the Serengeti.
The Luxury Tents
Set amidst the shade of the majestic baobab trees, each of these large tents come outfitted with complete furnishings, writing desks, chairs and double beds and have flushed toilets and hot showers. The locations of the camps are determined by the park authorities depending on the migratory movements of animals which allow the guest to be up close and personal with nature. Each camps contains a common dining tent complete with chinaware and silver ware and a fully stocked bar.
Camp chefs are renowned for their creativity under the most challenging conditions. Each 3-course meal is carefully prepared offering range of vegetables, meats and fruits. One should not be surprised if they see a freshly baked cake or fresh soufflé as a dessert coming out of the camp “oven”.
Families and Kids
The camps are family friendly and allows children of all ages however they are amidst natural elements. There are no nanny services, and parents need to supervise their children. Note that because of the ways the camps are set up- there are no common areas for children to play and therefore close supervision is required.
The common area of the camps and the kitchen are powered by a back up generator. The tents are traditionally illuminated using oil lamps giving it a romantic and natural feel.
6-8 hours form Arusha depending on the camps location. Typically guests are flown to the nearest camp if Serengeti is the first stop on the safari circuit or driven if coming from Ngorongoro thereby cutting down the travel time.

Staff & Service
Many of the staff at Serengeti are hired from the surrounding villages and trained in the art of hospitality. Staff are articulate in Swahili, English and their tribal dialect and some are even fluent in other European dialects. All staff members have completed mandatory primary school at a minimum and are required to attend a mandatory refresher course conducted by a hospitality expert during the off season. Staff to guest ratio is 1.5: 1 ensuring quality service.
